Day 1
On arrival in Durban you are greeted by your tour guide. A short transfer takes us to our comfortable hotel on Durban’s beach promenade on the Indian Ocean, our home for the next three nights. We do a city tour for orientation purposes and visit the uShaka Marineworld Aquarium. This aquarium is well worth seeing; it is the sixth largest in the world and has an impressive variety of sharks and rays.

Day 2
In the morning we visit the Comrades Expo at the ICC, where we also undertake our registration. Afterwards we survey the Comrades route with the tour vehicle. (B)

Day 3
Today is the day! After the traditional Comrades hymn “Chariots of Fire“ the long day begins. Over 12000 runners have up to 12 hours to complete the 87 and/or 89 km. The spirit on and alongside the route is one-of-a-kind. Depending on whether it is an “up run“ or a “down run“, we all meet at the finish in Pietermaritzburg or Durban and drive together back to the hotel for some well-earned rest and celebrations! (B)

Day 4
After the traditional breakfast on the beach promenade to exchange “battle stories“ we leave Durban and head north. After visiting the museum of Shaka Zulu’s former kraal we travel to St. Lucia to the world heritage site of iSimangaliso Wetland Park. We spend the next two nights in a comfortable guest house in close proximity to the beach and forest. Every once in a while hippopotamus and leopard are seen in the area! (B)

Day 5
Today we do a bit of game viewing. In the morning we drive to the nearby Hluhluwe/Imfolozi National Park. We go on a game drive in an open Land rover in search of black and white rhinos, lions, giraffes, impalas, lowland nyalas, elephants and zebras. Back in St. Lucia we experience a boat trip on the estuary where a multitude of water birds, hippo families and Nile crocodiles can be seen (optional). (B)

Day 6
We leave St. Lucia before lunch and drive back to Durban airport where this tough but beautiful tour ends. (B)
