In ultra-marathon circles, South Africa has the distinction of hosting two of the most prominent and popular events of the annual running calendar: The Two Oceans and Comrades ultra marathons. The Two Oceans marathon is the shorter of the two, coming in at 56 km with a cut-off time of 7 hours, while the Comrades clocks a massive 90 km with a cut-off time of 12 hours. Both races also have a number of fun runs for young long-distance-runners-in-training, as well as half marathons for those who enjoy running; just not for the entire day.

As veterans of both the Comrades and Two Oceans marathons, we at African Bikers are in a position to know exactly what runners need, and are able to offer travel packages that are uniquely tailored to meet those needs, as well as provide the means for some well-deserved rest and relaxation after the event. We help runners register for both the ultra and half marathon races, and will, as far as, possible provide you with a tour guide who will run the race with you.

Our 7-day Two Oceans marathon package tour includes sightseeing in Cape Town, as well as trips to Oudtshoorn out in the semi-arid region of the Klein Karoo and the idyllic town of Knysna along the Garden Route. We also travel to the Addo Elephant National Park and the Tsitsikamma National Park, where you can walk in indigenous rain forests - perfect after a long, hard ultra or half marathon run.

Our 6-day Comrades marathon package includes a tour of Shaka Zulu’s grave at Stanger and game drives in the Imfolozi/Hluhluwe National Park, so that race weary legs can sit and enjoy the big five safe in the knowledge that they won’t have to run anywhere for some time. For sturdier legs that haven’t tired of running or walking, there is a tour through a rain forest at the Howick Falls.
