Day 1
After arrival at Cape Town airport you are greeted by your tour guide.
A short transfer brings us to our peaceful guesthouse at the foot of Table
Mountain, were we will be accommodated for the next four nights. We do
some city sightseeing by foot: the castle, grand parade, city hall, Church
of Our Lady, parliament gardens and Greenmarket Square. By tour bus we
continue through the colourful Malay Quarter and District Six to the famous
V&A Waterfront. The afternoon is free for your own choice of activity.
We can do a 8-10 km easy run along the beautiful beach promenade. (B)
Day
2
The tour vehicle takes us over Chapman‘s Peak Drive along the Atlantic
Ocean to a penguin colony at Simonstown, and on to the Cape of Good Hope.
This way we get to know a large portion of the Two Oceans Marathon route.
A short hike (1 hour) through a unique plethora of plant life takes us
to Cape Point, with beautiful views over the Indian and Atlantic oceans.
With some luck we will also see bontebok, eland, ostriches and cheeky
baboons. On the return journey we stop briefly to collect our race numbers
at the registration point. (B)
Day 3
Today is the big day. A short transfer takes us to the start of the half
marathon and ultra marathon in Newlands. Family members have the chance
to cheer their runners on from two venues en-route! We all meet up again
at the finishing line at the University of Cape Town. We take you back
to the hotel. The rest of the day is at your disposal. (B)
Day
4
A short transfer brings us to the second-oldest town in the country, the
leafy University town of Stellenbosch with its Cape Dutch houses. After
a sightseeing tour we visit the vineyards of Boschendal. In nearby Franschhoek,
founded by immigrant Huguenots, not only the wine is good, but the food
as well! We travel over the pretty Franschhoek Pass to nearby Villiersdorp
and on to Montagu where we stay in a stylish guest house. A short hike
(1 hour) through the beautiful Kogmanns Gorge takes us to the hot springs
– ideal for relaxing tired legs. (B)
Day
5
Across the fascinating expanse of the Klein Karoo we travel through the
Langeberg and Swartberg Mountains to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich breeding
hub. We visit the impressive Cango Caves as well as an ostrich farm. Afterwards
we drive across the dry Klein Karoo to the evergreen coast of the Garden
Route. We spend the night in a comfortable hotel situated right next to
the warm Indian Ocean. (B).
Day 6
A short transfer takes us to the beautiful holiday resort of Knysna, famous
for it’s “Heads”, two steeply towering rocks which mark
the inlet to Knysna lagoon. The waterfront and numerous craft stores are
perfect for browsing. We continue on to Tsitsikamma National Park on the
wild, rocky coast. A short hike takes us to the suspension bridge over
the Storms River Mouth (1 hour). Our drive continues over the Zuurberg
Mountains to Addo, where we are accommodated in the comfortable thatched
rondavels of a beautiful country hotel. (B)
Day 7
In the early morning we do an open Landrover safari in the Addo Elephant
National Park. Elephants, ostriches, blesbok and zebra can be found here
and with a little bit of luck we could also see lions, buffalo and black
rhino. According to fl ight departure times a transfer takes us to the
nearby airport in Port Elizabeth. (B)
