    Day 1              Arrival and drive to Langebaan

    After arrival you will take over your rental car, bike rack and bikes. Drive to the coastal town of Langebaan, located right next to the lagoon. (-)

    Distance by car 100 km, duration est. 1.5 h

     

    Day 2              Bike Tour in the West Coast National Park

    Cycle in West Coast National Park. You will find a network of different roads leading to beautiful lookout points. (B)

    Day 3             Bike Tour on the edge of the Cederberge

    Drive by car to Clanwilliam. Bike Tour through diversified landscapes on quet gravel roads alomg the Olifants River, later over a pass (560 am) to the edge of the Cederberge. From here you cycle back to Clanwilliam. (B)

    Day 4              Bike Tour to Heuningvlei

    Cycle from the guesthouse to Pakhuis pass (990m). You will start off on a tarred road, later you will cycle on a gravel road through beautiful Fynbos which is unique in this area. The well-known Rooibos Tea is being farmed here as well. You will continue cycling on a quiet gravel road to the small settlement of Heuningvlei. Tourists and cars are not a common sight in this original town, the preferred mode of transport are still donkey carts. A visit seems like travelling back around 150 years in time. The people of Heuningvlei are very friendly and welcoming. Cycle back the same way to Clanwilliam. (B)

    Day 5              Bike Tour to Eselbank and Wupperthal

    With the car you drive to Matjesrivier (1 h). From here you cycle on a quiet gravel road to the smalle Village Eselbank and then after a steep downhill to Wupperthal. Founded by the Rhenish German mission you will still find an amazingly intact former lifestyle. The local shoemaker is well worth a visit. They are still handmaking the popular Feldskooner (veld shoes) from robust leather. Afterwards you climb the 500 steep altitude meters back up onto the plateau and back to the car. Drive to the next accommodation. (B,D)

    Day 6              Drive to Tulbagh and Afternoon Bike Tour

    Drive by car to Tulbagh (2.5 h). You can buy your cycling permit at the Shell petrol station in town, at Cape Dutch Quarters (on Tulbagh’s Main Road – Stel Street) or at the Tulbagh Toursim Office (on Church Street next to the museum).

    Today’s cycling tour is the so called „Farm Trail“. Tulbagh is a town in the mountain area „Land van Waveren“ in the South African Winelands. It is enclosed on three sides by the mountains and you have beautiful views in every direction. (B)

    Day 7              Bike Tour through durch Tulbagh

    Today you cycle on a diversified Trail through Tulbagh. The Mountain Bike Trail is called „Bone Trail“. You can start right at the accommodation and cycle in a loop back here. You have the choice of two different difficulty levels: the green route is shorter and not so strenous whereas the black route requires more effort. (B)

    Day 8              Inverdoorn Game Reserve

    Via Ceres you drive to Inverdoorn Game Reserve. Here you will experience two game drives in open safari vehicles, one in the afternoon after arrival and another one early morning. Accommodation in one of the comfortable lodge rooms. (B,L,D)

    Day 9              African Game Lodge

    Drive via Montagu to African Game Lodge, where you will be accommodated for two nights. In Montagu a walk through Badkloof to the hot springs is well worth the visit. In the afternoon you can go for a short bike tour on the lodge grounds. Accommodation in luxurious safari tents. (B,D)

    Day 11                        Bontebok Nationalpark

    Drive to Swellendam. Just outside the town you will find the Bontebok Nationalpark, where cycling inbetween wild animals is a unique experience. (B)

    Distance by car 90 km, duration est. 1.5 h

     

    Day 12                        Visit the Wine Farm Van Loveren

    A short drive (45 min.) takes you to the wine farm Van Loveren close to Robertson. On the farm you will find three different MTB trails you can choose from. You can buy your permit at the reception. In the afternoon you can taste some of the wines that are produced here. A boat cruise on the Breede River starting at Viljoensdrift wine farm is a great experience. Drive back to Swellendam to your accommodation. (B)

    Day 13            Bike Tour Oak Valley

    Drive to Elgin. Bike tour in Oak Valley on MTB Trails with different difficulty levels. You can buy the permit at the entrance. Continue by car to Stellenbosch’s Bonne Esperance Guest House for 3 nights. (B)

    Day 14                        Bike Tour in Jonkershoek

    You start at the accommodation and cycle to Jonkershoek Nature Reserve, where you have the choice of different bike routes with various difficulty levels. You can buy the permit at the entrance. Cycle back to the accommodation. (B)

    Distance by bike 0 – 50 km, 0 – 1000 am, tar/gravel

     

    Day 15             Bike Tour at Boschendal Wine Farm

    A short drive (20 min) takes you to Boschendal Wine Farm. Today you can choose between various routes with different difficulty levels, but all of them reward you with georgeous views of the area. Afterwards you should not miss a wine tasting at Boschendal. Drive back to the accommodation in Stellenbosch. (B)

    Day16                         Drive to Kleinmond

    By car you continue to Kleinmond. En route you can visit the colony of African Penguins in Betty’s Bay as well as the Harold Porter Botanical Garden. Your accommodation Villa Chad Guesthouse 4* is located in a quiet road not far from the long white beach in Kleinmond. The restaurant at the beach is known for its excellent fish dishes. (B)

    Day 17            Bike Tour in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve

    A short drive (10 min) takes you to the parking of the Kogelberg Nature Reserve. From here you can cycle to the reception where you will receive the cycling permit. The uphill trail leads you to a Jeep Track along the Palmiet river. You cross the Louws River (est. 6 km) and follow the Palmiet River on your right handside. Turn around at the Stokoei bridge, where you can also find a small swimming pool to cool off. Drive back to the accommodation by car. (B)

    Day 18 – 19                Cape Town

    By car you return to Cape Town where you will spend the last days of the tour. Accommodation is at Rosedene Guesthouse 4* just below Table Mountain. In Cape Town you can choose from many different bike options, e.g. Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, or even the Koeberg Nature Reserve where the only traffic are antelopes, zebras and tortoises. (B)

    We will collect the bikes and rack from your accommodation. Return of the rental car at the airport and departure.

  • Travel Hints

    This tour can be booked with a rental car including a bike rack and a rental bike or also accompanied by one of our qualified drivers or tour guides. It is also possible to shorten the tour. For the trails you will need good stamina and technical riding skills. There is an option to upgrade from the classic Mountain Bike to an e-bike which is available as hard tail and full suspension.
