African Bikers – Active by Nature
African Bikers was established in 1993 by Andreas Lappe and Jens Deister, after both of them had arrived in Cape Town on their bikes from a year’s crossing of the African continent. African Bikers and the team being the first and oldest bicycle tour operator in South Africa have been the local experts for over 25 years, with detailed knowledge and insider tips that are often unknown to tour operators and travel agents. In addition to our bike trips, we offer hiking, nature and multi-activity as well as safari trips not only in South Africa, but also in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Madagascar, Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia.
With African Bikers you can look forward to friendly and competent tour guides, who are all English speaking. Almost all of them live locally and are enthusiastic about showing their home country to you. This also includes a visit to the Noluthando Day Care Center in the Township of Khayelitsha, Cape Town, which African Bikers has been supporting for the past 20 years. Travel routes and accommodation are all researched, constantly reviewed and, where necessary, modified by us – not least through the constructive feedback we receive from our guests. For your trip, we favor a mixture of personally managed guest houses, bed and breakfasts, small hotels, beautifully situated, stylish lodges and sometimes basic and clean chalets – when we are far off the beaten track.
All our bicycle trips are offered with permanent back-up, allowing you to decide when you feel like taking a ride in the support vehicle. Your luggage is always nearby, without having to carry it yourself. Our rental e-bikes, mountain bikes, touring bikes and racing bikes are manufactured by renowned brands such as Trek and Schwinn. Of course, you can also bring your own bike.
We attach great importance to individual service, therefore our groups are small and with few exceptions consist of no more than 15 guests. Should the minimum number of guests required for the trip not be reached, we will always try to make the trip happen, possibly with a small additional charge. All our trips can also be booked as individual journeys for 2 or more people. As a long-standing local specialist, we are happy to work out tailor-made programs according to your ideas, such as self-drive tours or individual extensions. Since with African Bikers you book directly with the tour operator, we are able to provide competent advice and implement your personal ideas directly and at a reasonable price. Our goal is to have enthusiastic guests who like to return for more nature experiences with African Bikers.
