Cycling tour to the highlights of Namibia 18 days

The national parks and wildlife reserves with their variety as well as their unique landscape and vegetation make Namibia a popular country. On this bike tour we will cycle along the edge of the Fish River Canyon, the second largest Canyon in the world. We will discover Namibia by hiking in the oldest desert in the world and cycling through the desolate Naukluft Mountains. In Swakopmund we experience the time when the Germans colonised this area and ride to the Spitzkoppe, the impressive landmark of Namibia, with its massive granite peaks. We will have a look at the thousands of years old artistry from the bushmen (san) of the time in Twyfelfontein, and go on safari in the Etosha National Park. This 18 day cycling holiday offers the unique opportunity to discover the beauty of the Namibian landscape up close by cycling on selected bike routes. You can actively experience these wonders from another perspective as the usual bus.

Cycling tour to the South of Namibia in 14 days

The south of Namibia is characterized mainly by rocky and sandy deserts. The number of towns can be counted on one hand, large deserted areas with an astonishing wealth of animals characterize the landscape. In addition to the second largest canyon on earth and the oldest desert in the world, the three-day hike with overnight stays under the Namib Desert sky is certainly the highlight of the journey. By limiting ourselves to the south of Namibia, many two night stays are often planned in order to experience country and people in more detail.

Hiking and Yoga Tour through Namibia with Sandra Bicker of Yoga Natura.

Namibia

The country of Namibia lies in southern Africa at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean and is surrounded by Angola, Botswana, Zambia and South Africa. It is the second least populated country of the world. Based on its unique topography and its rich fauna, it is one of the most frequently visited countries of the African continent. It has a Mediterranean and subtropical climate, with pleasant average daytime temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius and around 15 degrees Celsius overnight in September.

Yoga

We practice Yoga once per day, each session (of approximately 90 to 120 minutes). We adapt the yoga program to the excursions and accommodations. After longer drives or hikes we focus on stretching yoga exercises, to move and relax our bodies. Other days we start the day with invigorating breathing exercises and strengthening body postures. Yoga Beginners are also welcome.

Hiking & Safari

We start with a foot safari with the indigenous people in the Kalahari. We hike through the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world, and sleep under the spectacular starry sky. Desolate roads lead us to the highest sand dunes in the world which are found in Sossusvlei. A short walk in the Kuiseb Canyon and a halt at the pelicans and flamingos. Continue to the coastal town of Swakopmund. Hike at the Spitzkoppe. Hike in the Erongo Mountains to Bull´s Party. Unique safari in the Hoanib Valley (Desert Elephants!). Nothing but Safari in the Etosha Pan. (More details in the travel itinerary.)

Accommodation, Transports and Food

During our tour we are accommodated in different types of 3* accommodation (with shower & toilet): in Lodges (some with pool), guesthouses with a cozy family atmosphere and during our hike in the Namib Desert we will sleep two nights on comfortable camp beds under the clear starry skies of the desert. Transports are with an air-conditioned minibus, for some safaris in 4×4 vehicles. The Namibian cuisine is a fusion of delights and due to all the different influences (from Europe and from African tribes) it is very diverse.

Cycling tour to the North of Namibia in 14 days

Savanna landscapes with villages of the Herero, Damara, Himba and Ovambo characterize the fertile center and the north of the country. Wildlife is also at home in the dense bush, so the safaris to the desert elephants in Hoanib Valley and the Etosha Pan are highlights of the trip. Fascinating are the rugged walls of the Waterberg Plateau, the piled Ugab terraces with the Vingerklip Needle and the Epupa Falls in the far north on the border with Angola. During the trip, we have often planned two nights in one location to discover the surroundings and its people in more detail.
