Mountain Bike Adventure around and Hiking Tour on Top of Mt. Kilimanjaro 5895 m | 14 Days

  • Tour Overview

    Tour Highlights:

The adventure trip around Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. First bike 370 kilometers on gravel roads and tracks, then hike onto the peak 5895 m. – Individual- and group travel.

The trail around Africa‘s tallest mountain and highest volcano is 370 kilometers long and involves 5200 am of climbing. It takes you through solitary rainforests, fertile fields of crop and through wild, dry acacia rich savannah, which is the home of the Masai. The tracks around the cloud shrouded, snow-capped roof of Africa are mainly dusty, sometimes rocky, with a few asphalt roads. You spend a night in a Masai cultural village to get to know their customs, songs and dishes. On a safari in Arusha National Park you see some of Africa´s amazing wildlife. Two packages are available: with a local mountain bike guide only, you carry your own luggage during the rides or, a comfort option where a backup vehicle is always around so distances can be shortened to individual needs.

After the MTB tour there is a day of rest before the hike begins. A dream for many; climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. To reach Uhuru Peak (5895 m) of this huge ‘hill’ you don’t need any climbing skills, a general good hiking experience is sufficient. It is planned to hike to the top of the mountain via the Marangu Route – the only one offering accommodation in huts. If they are fully booked, then tents will be used on either the Machame or Rongai Route.

Despite its height (850 m – 2100 m) the area around Kilimanjaro is still a malaria risk area. A prophylaxis is recommended. The tours are in the months of the dry season. The cool temperatures of the night (15 °C) can rise up to 30-35 °C during the afternoon.

To be able to reach heights of 5895 m, not only does the body need to be properly trained, but needs to adjust itself, which is necessary for the body’s acclimatization in these conditions. If one travels the highest summit of the continent with too much haste, they might not make it to Uhuru Peak. Temperatures on top can get down as far as -20 °C.
